National Home Library Foundation

The National Home Library Foundation makes grants to fund books for libraries, schools and literacy programs serving children, teens or adults in need of reading and learning resources. Priority is given to programs in the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia areas. 

Over its 80 year history, the NHLF has awarded more than $3.1M in grants. More than $250,000 has been granted to the Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland region since 2005.

The Trustees will meet again in March, 2020  to consider grant applications. Priority is given to programs providing direct services to help achieve literacy. If your program improves reading and writing skills, consider applying for a grant. The NHLF Grants range from $500 to around $5000, with the average grant around $2000.

With that belief, the       foundation supports literacy and reading programs for all ages.

Low-income affects access to literacy across the educational landscape and for generations.

The Board of Trustees is committed to making small grants that make a big impact on local community programs working directly with populations in dire need of books and other literacy and communications resources.
